Södra Björstorp Castle

Södra Björstorp is located in Österlen outside Brösarp. The main building was built in 1775. The octagonal design is not found anywhere else in Sweden. The land around the castle has been cultivated since the Middle Ages.

History of Södra Björstorp

Södra Björstorps is a castle in Tomelilla municipality. The main building was completed in 1775. The octagonal design is not found elsewhere in Sweden. The land around the farm has been cultivated since the Middle Ages.

Södra Björstorp was completed in 1775 by Mickael C:son Malmström whose son Otto Christian Malmström was the architect, trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. The octagonal castle is completely surrounded by an inner courtyard. The castle is built in sutter meadow with a view of the park. The buildings are constructed of plastered gray stone and on the roofs are single-cupped brick boilers.

The property also has a larger grain store and distillery, which are currently used for events and special functions. Read more about the distillery here

A kilometer-long avenue lined with stone-walled courtyards leads to the castle. Where you pass the remains of the old mill and lathe, with associated dam, as well as Södra Björstorp's former coal industry and sawmill.
